You make statements that are blind optimism hoping to see the good in all. Unfortunately, the actual statistics for NYC crime and specifically violent crime is very bad right now.
It’s worse than that, I travel to nyc all the time. I grew up in the city and see it for what it has become, a train wreck. I do not want it to fail but facts never lie, and no matter how much people hope it’s not a plan. The streets are filthy, stores empty shop lifting out of control. At least once a week some poor soul shoved in front of a subway. It pains me, the city I love is gone and I fear it’s never coming back.

Nope. I don't think I state that either, since I am well aware there is not good in all. I guess its pretty much worthless to yet again mention about the non crime I observed and experience for my wanderings around the streets and subways, for when I was there and where I wandered.

We are not talking about one person making very limited observations, we are talking about real hard facts. That’s the difference.

Lots of streets are indeed filthy for even even where I wandered/visited, and lots of the subway entrances are even worse. Certainly not pretty in some places and even where the tourists have no choice but to have to traverse. However, didn't really see/experience any crime and didn't feel like I was about to be a victim.

I was there for almost a full week, out on the streets and using the subway everyday. I am sure if I just stood still and watched/observed from a street corner for the entire day I would have seen something, it probably would have been attracted to me. Like I said earlier, I kept aware of my surroundings and what was around me at all times, kept moving, didn't put myself and the others I was with into situations to get in trouble (I assume everyone does that where ever they are unless they are at their home) and I didn't come across any dumpster fires or get caught in any cross fires.

Here's a long term view of number of murders over the years. When did TransitCaptain leave NYC after he grew up there, in comparison to it now being a Dumpster Fire?

==================================

The article states that murders did go up in 20 and 21 during pandemic but came down. The focus of the article was that VIOLENT crime was still increasing even in 2022 compared with recent years.

I'll take a part-time NYC resident daily experience over a tourist any day there same way as part-time FL resident daily experience here.

Do you really think if a tourist visits Wherever You Are, Canada, they're really going to have a remotely close idea what it's like to live there as resident?

It's entertaining to see how a discussion of EV turned into a debate on how safe NYC is. I haven't been to NYC myself, but its clear to me the way you guys described it that I wouldn't want to be there anyway. Can we just say that spARTacus got lucky he didn't have a horrible experience while in NYC? Let's just be thankful that he is still here today having a friendly debate despite visiting the dangerous cesspool we call NYC. (or perhaps I understood the whole situation wrong, so I apologize for this)

Also, there may be cases that E-bikes have seriously harmed people, but that isn't to say that the manufacturers wanted it that way. This is the same of every products released in the market. A few years back, there were multiple reports of the Samsung Note 7 exploding, and yet now we have the S23 which seems to be selling rather well. Bottom line, manufacturers work things out, and with the widespread media reports of its dangers, they would do something to address that issue. The lesson here is don't just jump on the bandwagon. I'm still happy with my pedal bike and don't see the need to switch any time soon.

Sure. It goes both ways however (that is, it'd be nice if opinion doesn't get stated as fact for some strength of rational argument purpose attempt, about EBikes for example).

A good suggestion, in my opinion. One that should be thought about with regards to the bandwagons for adoption of EBikes, EVs, Green, etc., and with regards to the bandwagons opposing such. Same can probably also be said about bandwagons for left, right, liberal, conservative, woke, asleep, anti-fossil-fuels, anti-anti-fossil-fuels.

You still haven't created your seperate woke thread (whatever that means to you and for some of the labels you seem to also always want use), a safe place thread for you to go on about whatever you want for whatever you are frustrated about or frustrated at.
I don't want to create a thread that doesn't officially have a category. This isn't my website and I want to respect Kevin's original intent of a tech site.

P.S. I'm not frustrated about anything. The beauty of America is everyone believes what they want to believe. I have no emotional need for others to think the way I think ;)

Well it would relate to Tech wouldn't it, in the same way as to why any of it is brought up in existing posts/threads, no? At minimum, wouldn't it also be about empowering western industry and commercialism rejuvenation along certain paths for certain benefits/purposes? I am only guessing, based on whatever current linkages seem to be implied. I could be wrong.

PS. Without more recent periodic guidance from those running the show, I think part of their last communicated intent was for about a Circus. So, I think you're safe to plop new threads where you think those could best be put within existing categories, until a mod re-directs or moves to any new or different categories.

Your free to do what ever you want, believe anything. You just have a habit of discounting anything you have not witnessed. Sp I will tell you what I tell some people who either refuse to look at the stats/facts/math/science please remember to ask for a window seat in the box car……lmao…woof!
