All politicians are political and there is always an element of their behavior that relates to striving to gain power, retain power, pushing certain agendas and interests, trying to influence, etc. For anyone to think otherwise would just be stupidity or ignorance. The word politician is literally derived from the word politics and/or vice versa. In the western world, the trick is for something that strikes a balance between extremes of political interests and objectives, something that benefits, helps and satisfies a majority while ideally also not overly imposing too much upon those that are not in the majority (or as long as the minority is small enough or not loud enough). That's all just life as we know it in the western world. Gets crappy sometimes for some people and those in the minority, and the crappines is more visible the finer the line between majority and minority or the louder the majority/minority is (as there is now within lots of western societies).
