One, it was an newspaper editorial read and recorded (with orchestration by the DSO) by a Canadian born American wannabe who succeeded in becoming American and the self navel gazing beaten psyche American of the day lapped it up just like you idiots playing Neil Young songs at a Trump Revival! Yes it was a bad time with your sons coming home in body bags from another failed "war" and dropping bombs indiscriminately on civilians was definitely something Americans wanted washed under.

A HUGE hit of the day? Tie a Yellow Ribbon.
Thank you for your response

RU SURE? Thought it was called Tie a Yellow Rubber Round the Old Oak Tree, based on the classic film She Wore a Yellow Rubber. Any woman working around Marion would have wanted to keep one handy, according to what was said about how he related to female peons. Though why the Duke insisted on yellow for that purpose will probably remain unknown. Something buried in the deepest canyons of that redoubtable psyche.

He was a bit of a Nance but so what?

Actually the classic you speak of was, she wore a yellow ribbon. Yellow was for the neckerchief the troopers wore. The girls would get them from the troopers and wear them , like a school ring of the time.
